India grew up in the beautiful English countryside of Devon with her Mum, Dad and three older sisters. Always a keen outdoor adventurer, India and her family spent most of her childhood exploring the South West; driving in fields, swimming, sailing and other outback pursuits.
Born into a musical family she started playing the cello at 10 years old and went on to study music at York University. Now she provides the glorious sound of cello and vocals that you will hear behind the Quiksilver endorsed artist, Ben Howard. We caught up with this talented Quiksilver Woman after a concert in the beautiful Basque city of San Sebastian.

When and how did music come into your life?
.
Growing up, dad was a music teacher and Mum played piano and sang so my sisters and I was always surrounded by music. As a toddler I swung from my Mum’s dress as she sung in choir, so I suppose it was absorbed from a young age. Thanks to my parents and an inspirational music teacher I decided to take music seriously. In the end it was really no contest; I’m at my happiest when I’m involved in it.
.
As a child, what were your ambitions?
.
Becoming a vet and famous horse rider. No joke! Music took over in my early teens and that was that.
.
How did you meet Ben Howard?
.
I’ve been close friends with Ben’s sister Krysia for many years and spent a lot of time with their family. When Ben started gigging a few years ago he asked me to jam with him and it went pretty well.
.
How would you describe your collaboration with Ben?
.
We both have quite different musical influences, which makes for an interesting collaboration. It’s a great laugh! We always say that if we don’t have fun then there’s no point in doing it.
.
What have been the tour highlights so far?
.
Touring with Xavier Rudd this February was definitely a highlight. Also playing at the Quik Pro in Hossegor and Love Box festival last summer. The after parties get pretty funny too – we found our mate after the Quik pro making a ‘camembert and tomato soup pie’ at 5am singing French pop at the top of his voice… happy days.
.
What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?
.
Don’t give up. And practice.
.
What are your projects for the rest of 2010?
.
We’re about to set off on our own little headline tour in Europe this month, which will be our first so we’ll all really excited about it. For the rest of the summer we’ll be recording the new album and playing a few festivals. Further than that we’ll see…!
