Being able to inspire someone is a great gift. One of the few people who have inspired me along the way is Bara Prasilove with her breath taking yet simple photography. And although Bara has this wonderful and profound personality, our connection has always been based on our adoration for each other’s work. It had been in the plans of both of us to team up and see if we could complete her photos with my texts and vice versa. When she contaced me this summer and asked me if she could use my texts to fulfil the installation of her photos for Quiksilver at this year’s Designblock, I couldn’t have agreed more. This should be an easy task for me, I thought, her pictures would do the talking – I just had to listen…
.
A few weeks later I found myself next to Bara walking into an old building that used to be one of Prague’s bigger hospitals. It was gigantic, including a massive entrance hall and a huge stair case that lead to plenty of little rooms. All of them served as exhibit places for anything one could associate with design – scented candles, glassworks, porcelain restoration, degradable cutlery, hookahs, jewellery and right in the middle of it all a room full of Quiksilver Women’s clothing. And there they were, Bara’s pictures and my texts. And just as I had expected, while her pictures did the talking, my texts stood next to it and listened…

Bara Prasilova originally from Prague (Czech Republic) is an accomplished artist and talented photographer; she took the prize for Photographer of the Year at the Czech Grand Design Awards 2009.
.
.
Being the stylist, hairdresser and make up artist for her own photo shoots, her universe is made up of image, shade and light. Her photos illustrate daily life whilst transporting us into the fairy tale world of magical dreams.
.
In collaboration with Quiksilver Women, Bara is touring her photo exhibition in Quiksilver Women stores across Europe between June and December 2010. Following the success of her exhibition during the Tony Hawk Show in Paris, Bara this year uses her experience to capture the essence and personalities of other Quiksilver Women Ambassadors.
.
For this shoot in Prague, she was accompanied by Ela, Julie Boulanger, Leddra Chapman and Mahara McKay. The photographs reveal the Fall/Winter 2010 collection in an urban universe, yet with even more rock’n’roll. Thanks to her imagery, she helps us discover the artistic and creative portraits reflecting the universe of these women.

By Ruth Carruthers, QSW Ambassador
Despite the fact that we weren’t competing in any of the official categories, we went home with an award under our belt! Quiksilver women exhibited the photo collection “Quiksilver women by Bara Prasilova” at Designblok in Prague. Our booth featured the photos as well as our latest clothing range. Our brand ambassador Charlotte O’Connor was there to share this special occasion and to make us all dance to her music. The Jury was pretty impressed by everything that happened and decided to throw our way a “Special Award for an extraordinary feat related to design occurring outside official categories“. Boy were we stoked when we heard Quiksilver at the award ceremony!!!
Special thanks go to everyone that made this award possible: to Bara Prasilova for her art, her vision and her passion for our brand; to all the ambassadors featured in the pictures - Ellie Lawson, Leddra Chapman, Mahara Mc Kay, Ela and Charlotte O’Connor; to Mathus Hubka and the whole Quiksilver team in the Czeck Republic and to everyone else that was there to make it happen:
A MASSIVE THANK YOU TO YOU ALL!!!

Coming from Prague, in the Czech Republic, Bara Prasilova is an accomplished artist and an awarded photographer. Either being a model, a hairdresser or a make up artist for her own photoshoots, her world is all about images, lights and shadows.
.
Her images are composed of elements in our life, yet they bring us to a world of fairies, dreams and nature. “During my childhood, everything around me was so intense. My imagination was so strong and alive; the forest was so much deeper and the night so much darker… the best souvenirs of my childhood are things that actually never happened…”.
.
Discover the world of this incredibly creative Quiksilver woman on the video below and stay tuned this winter as she unleashes her photo collection Quiksilver Women by Bara Prasilova.

It was rainy and cold in french Lille, but I really didn’t care. Firstly, because I love spring rain and secondly and more importantly, because I was exhibiting in a big photo-festival called Transphotographiques. It was such an awesome venue, so much wicked art, that even my photos didn’t care about a few raindrops
.
The exhibition took place in a huge hall at the Palais Rameau. Part of my photo collection was shown in the glass part of the palace. It looked a bit like a massive greenhouse, with huge chandeliers and lots of light, and my pictures there were 2×2 meters!!! The first impression when I walked in was so magical!!! Soft rays of light were going through the pics and it was all quiet…
.
So, I left my umbrella in Lille and came back to Prague full of awesome memories and three issues of Photo magazine where I have 2 featured pages!!! My dreams came true in France:-)
.
There was just one this missing there… my swan
… but you’ll meet him soon… stay tuned!…
