Boardmasters festival blog and photos

.
Just back from the Relentless Boardmasters festival in Newquay, Cornwall and had a lot of fun! Boardmasters is held on a stunning cliff top location over looking Watergate Bay where 12,500 people attend the South West’s biggest live music event. Dave and I played on the view stage, which is their new acoustic stage.

Good old English weather threatened to pour down until an hour before we played but then brightened up a little bit. Not quite the scorching hot day we were hoping for but lots of lovely people still came to see us and support us!
.

.

.
Being non drinkers and non caffeine intakers we didn’t partake in the drinking of any Relentless drinks or vodka on offer but found a very cute little tent with free red current tea which was put-on by a lady who lives in Spain and self teaches her 3 kids in a house without an electricity generator which she has done for 15 years! She was very cool!
.

.
For the rest of the evening we were loving the sets from Plan B, Xavier Rudd, Seasick Steve and Newton Faulkner.
.

.

.
The beaches are gorgeous in Newquay so we made the most of it the following day by making sure to do some surfing with the Quiksilver surfing school and walking through the more quiet secluded beaches-avoiding the nuts magazine Bikini contests and the like where on 2 occasions I saw pink liquid coming out of some poor guys mouth! Oh the joys of alcohol- not!
.

.

.
This weekend we met some really lovely people at this festival. So thanks to Katy for booking us, those on Facebook who came along to support me! Really appreciate it!! Hope you had an amazing time! Thank you to Ady Webb for the brilliant photos of us playing the gig and Jen White for the videoing and Stacey for recommending them to me. Video/audio to follow asap. Bye for now,
.

Lots of love,

.

.....Having a blast at the AWESOME Quiksilver Newquay store--- sunshine included as standard.. XX =)

Playing to the local crowds and merrily signing CD’s is great fun especially when people that I’ve never met know all the lyrics to my songs! Very impressive seeing as I have so many lyrics!! The shop owners have been a great laugh and we are really excited about making a short video about our tour which will be finished in August! Thanks to everyone thats coming out to see us and snapping up my CDs!

.

Heres us at the Brighton store in the south of England on fashion Rocks weekend. This is where I used to go for my summer hols as a child so loved playing the store here! It was extra hot and the window was pretty small so the store owner got us playing outside in the sun and the people in the restaurant next door loved it!

...playing at the lovely Brighton exclusively Quiksilver Womens boutique store..

Thanks to Dave as always on guitar and Djembe and for keeping me amused, the talented pianist and singer Hils for taking time out of teaching music and late but great addition to the band Tom on bass. Not forgetting hilarious Kev our cheeky sound engineer and Meena,Yasmin and Emily for faciliatating and helping us put together this crazy tour!! Best of all thanks Quiksilver Women for all the costume changes! Each week I loved planning what to wear and having a shop full of clothes to choose from! Definitely living the dream!

Ellie’s brand new music video for the song ‘Apple’

YouTube Preview Image

Ellie’s creative single ‘Apple’ from her Independent album ‘Lost Songs’ with brilliant animation by Nacho Romero. Presented by Quiksilver Women. Lost Songs is available to buy on iTunes and CD Baby.

“This is a young woman plugged directly into the electric source of creativity. This music is so rich, so finely envisioned and realized, that you can fall into these tracks, and live in them for days at a time. In a world where a scarcity of substance prevails, this collection swims against the current of what’s conventional, packing in all the tunefulness, rhythmic and verbal wonder that tracks can hold. This is sensational.” Paul Zollo, Journalist and author of Songwriters on Songwriting.

Ellie Lawson plays at the Bath Quiksilver store official opening

…had so much fun playing live at the official store opening of Quiksilver in Bath last weekend- many thanks to Carmen and Chris for their hospitality!! Hope you enjoy the footage!

Video shoot for my song ‘Apple’

Ellie wearing the Quiksilver Women Catacomb Tee and the Twisted Fate vest

.
Shot a video on Thursday for my song “Apple”.

It was great fun!! Started at 8am with Nicole and Lindsay doing my hair and make-up. Had GMTV on the TV in the backgroup whilst listening to the Kooks and Nicole was pointing to the presenters hair on the TV, which she had styled a few hours before mine!

The production team get busy

Turned up at the industrial location, which we had scouted a week before and the manager there said that we couldn’t shoot there. Have you heard of a ‘jobs worth’ well he had the T-shirt, cup and book. We had to find a new location on the fly, and my wonderful production team of 10 people walked all around the industrial estate and found some where even better! Hooray!! Big and eternal thanks

the band balance themselves..

Band on a branch..

to the very creative and professional Kaspar, (director) Twan, (producer and editor) Christine (director of photography) and all the hard working crew on this shoot. Thank you to Marta and Julie for the wicked clothes and for helping making it happen. We shot lots of scenes in the industrial location- like inside a big container, walking by the barbed wire and then we moved to the park to shoot the end of the video with my band, Dave, Hils and Giles.

.

Giles, my bass player, travelled all the way from France to be in the video, but had forgotten something: His bass! Not a big deal for our creative and down too earth Giles. He went off to the garden centre and came back with a Skiffle bass, made from a metal bucket, a broomstick and some string!! Look closely at the pic! (click to enlarge)

Here’s a video of the making of Apple. YouTube Preview Image

.

We have a brilliant animator called Nacho working on the video and he will be drawing all over the film. Very excited!! We are aiming for it to be finished by August 14th.

Dreams Become Things… cd launch

Hi there.. so I thought it was about time, that I took some time out to big up my amazing bandmate and backing vocalist HILS GRANGER. Altho she plays keys and B.V.s for me (Ellie), very exquisitely might I add, Hils is also a talented songwriter in her own right, and is launching her own CD/EP this coming week! The CD is called “Dreams Become Things”, which is a fantastic title, and truth I think for us all to remember that we can acheive great things!! It would be great to see some familiar Quiksilver women faces and attire down at the launch in Putney/South London, at the Half Moon, this Wednesday 29 April.. Things kick off just after 9pm.

Hils came out to Hossegor last summer with me and my band, when we played at the Pro-France surf event, and here we are just after our gig at the Regents Street Quiksilver store, which was the London launch of all things QSW!!!

To listen to Hils’ music and find out more about her own cd release, click on any of the pics and you will find yourself magically transported to her myspace page.. =) xx
