Mahara McKay went to art school , learning decorative design, Due to the fact that her mother was a taylor and fashion designer, she became familiar with fashion at an early stage of her age. “My mother wanted to teach me everything in a perfect way, but I found no patience to sew.” While she was Miss Switzerland, she made her debuts in a self-creation on the stage. Since then, Mahara McKay designed all her clothes for the red carpet .She said “I have no training in fashion, but I have a feel for it. For me it is “learning by doing. “
For the Miss Switzerland pageant in 2011, Mahara designed beautifull, young stiled dresses for 3 candidates who were proud to be wearing these close and happy about the collaboration they had with Mahara.
Mahara had no designer ambitions but presented her clothes so well, that the Miss Switzerland-organization decided to take her as one of the four designers for this year’s election of Miss Switzerland! Before that, hardly anyone knew Mahara had designed her gala outfits for the last ten years. The 2000 Miss Switzerland is clear :« I do not consider myself as a designer. I’m just a very creative person and try to implement my ideas wherever I can.” She came to the casting as a successor of designer Lisbeth Egli. Mahara did not get an ex- miss- bonus: “Like everyone else I had to submit my designs!” she declares.
Thinking of her being at first a successful DJ: At the beginning I was afraid of making clothes since i have not studied design and am a DJ. But i told myself, in the end, the Girls just have to look stunning on that evenening, when they come out in their evening gowns!! And i knew i could do that. The gorls were all very young, so I wanted them to look fresh n sexy.Im very happy with the endresult.
Maybe I can start to develop a second job. I will never get sick of Music, but I know I don’t want to be playing in Clubs my whole life. Im Not getting any younger!” She says, laughing.

Quiksilver Women’s Ela featured in Kinki Mag
.
Kinki Mag was only launched in 2008, but is already the doubtless favourite of Switzerland’s fashionists that never fell for conventions and mainstream. Being the rebellious and progressive face of Swiss folks loving the unconventional lifestyle, Kinki Mag featured our Swiss MissEla in a photo series in April as well as introducing her as Quiksilver Women’s resident blogger within an interview in the current issue.

It’s not that we wouldn’t appreciate such things as International Women’s Day, but the thing with us Quiksilver Women is just that we are independent females and we don’t need others to set up occasions to celebrate ourselves. That’s why we European Quiksilver Ambassadors gathered up four days after 2009’s Internationel Women’s day to celebrate female creativity at its best! Cuz everyday is a Quiksilver women’s day!
